Are YOU a Superwoman? You shouldn’t be!

While as women we often want to be perceived as “perfect”.  The perfect wife, mother, daughter, employee, cook, gardner, entertainer, being everything to everyone else but ourselves. Being everything to everyone else but ourselves is simply a recipe for burnout! Have you taken the time to really think about what it is YOU truly want? Often when I ask women this question, many don’t have an answer!  That’s because as givers we are always thinking about other people, always thinking about how we may please someone else but rarely do we take time to think about ourselves.  This is what I’m on a journey to change.

I want beautiful, intelligent, hard-working women to begin thinking about their own dreams and desires instead of always thinking about others. This is not being selfish but instead this is being the most giving.  For you have to give fully to yourself and fill you up before you can give to anyone else.  Ever heard of the term, “you can’t give from an empty cup”?  If your personal cup is empty, what can you give to others? What can you give to your daughter if you’re empty on the inside.  Just think about it.

I challenge you today to begin to think about your dreams and desires.  What is it that you would love to do, just for yourself?  Not for your husband, not for your children, not for your sister or brother but something just for you, to make you smile and feel great! Think about your dreams and desires but not only that, begin to journal about your desires and you’ll find the more you think about what you truly want, puts you on the path to achieving your desires.

The Superwoman, the Perfectionist

Why is it women have a hard time putting themselves first? By being a perfectionist and superwoman,too many women deplete themselves of all their energy by saying “yes” to everyone else.  Yes, to working hard, really hard.  I’m talking overtime, late nights and early mornings hard! Yes, to husbands, yes to children, yes to parents, yes to everyone else but themselves.  Is it that if we do consider saying yet to ourselves first we might think we’re being selfish?

As a working woman are you trying to be all things to all people? Do you feel like you must be perfect, that is the perfectionist? The perfect employee, the perfect wife, the perfect mom.

The truth is, when you take time for yourself you are in a better position to serve and give to others in your life in a greater way.

Here are three simple times to “detox: from being a Superwoman!

  1. Consider yourself to be your own best friend.
    • There’s a saying, love your neighbor as yourself.  That’s because you can’t truly love anyone else unless you love yourself first.  When you think about your best friend, don’t you care about them and love them dearly? You need to think and feel the same way about your relationship with yourself.
  2. Learn to say ‘no” often and without guilt.
    • There is nothing wrong with saying “NO” to some people and some things in your life! Figure out what’s your priority and so “NO” to everything else.  I dare you to try it for a full day!  Trust me after the first few no’s and giving yourself the gift of more time, you’ll thank me.
  3. Learn to delegate.
    • Delegation is a beautiful thing, once you learn how to do it successfully. Delegating to others then stressing out and micro-managing others isn’t  successfully delegating.  Enjoy the process of lightening your load.

5 Simple Ideas to Pamper Yourself

Everyone deserves a bit of pampering now and then, right? Pampering doesn’t have to mean tons of time or money, though; it can be something small. Below is a list of five simple ways you can pamper yourself anytime.

1. Bubble Bath

Never underestimate the power of an aromatherapy bubble bath. Splurge on some bath salts or bubble bath in your favorite scent, then dim all of the lights and enjoy your spa day at home.

2. Sweet Treat

For a simple, affordable bit of pampering, select one or two of your favorite truffles, and indulge in a glass of bubbly champagne!  Not sparking wine, although I do love my Cuvee! Champagne is the best and sometimes a small luxury goes a long way in pampering yourself.

3. Massage

Instead of an, hour-long massage, opt for a quick, luxurious chair massage. Any good masseuse will leave you feeling pampered and relaxed in no time.

4. Flowers

A bouquet of your favorite fresh flowers does a wonderful job of providing a simple pleasure. I love to simply smell the aroma of fresh cut flowers. Nothing says beauty and pleasure like a flower.

5. Candles or Diffusers

Aromatherapy candles or diffusers are a perfect way to pamper yourself. Simply light it, lay down and enjoy the indulgent feeling of relaxation. For even more pampering, curl up with extra pillows and your favorite book.

Get Inspired

3 Places I Get Inspiration

Inspiration is all around us and is especially found in Mother Nature.  All we need to do is slow down and start paying attention to the beauty that is unfolding in front of us.  Life can run so fast that our natural instinct is to run faster to catch up but maybe we need to stop and acknowledge with gratitude all the things we have.  It’s about being mindful, living in the present moment and changing your perspective from longing to appreciating. 

There are 3 places where I get inspiration from and I would like to share them with you.

  1. The beach and ocean.  There’s something about feeling the sand between my toes and being beside water that draws me in like a magnet; the sound of the waves, birds overhead, feeling the wind against my face, breathing the salt air or watching the sunrise or sunset.  It definitely stimulates the senses and makes me feel inner peace when I’m there, like a piece of heaven.
  2. A beautiful park.  I love walking through a beautiful park because it has all the amenities like bike paths, playground equipment, picnic tables, tall trees for shade, green grass for sitting in, and maybe a canteen to buy a special treat.  It’s a wonderful, happy place to sit back and relax, watching kids play and laugh while spending quality time with the people I love.
  3. Yosemite National Park.  Famous for its ancient, giant sequoia trees, the towering Bridal Veil Falls, and the granite cliffs of El Capitan and Half Dome.  It’s no wonder photographer Ansel Adams found inspiration here as well because you can’t help but get swept away by the beauty of this park and what it has to offer.  You can explore for the day or camp overnight but I guarantee you will leave inspired after visiting and experiencing the tranquility of Yosemite.  It’s a great place to lose yourself so you can find yourself.

We are here to experience life to the fullest, finding inspiration each and every day.  Mother Nature’s playgrounds are always waiting for you to get out and explore, change your mind, and find your soul.
